The Old Dominion Endurance Ride, Inc. is proud to host the 2006 American Endurance Ride Council (AERC) National Championship endurance ride.

Riders may finish acumulating qualifying miles anytime before the National Championship Ride. Further details and entry forms are to be found on this website under “Ride Information” and “Entry Forms”. When: The 100 mile championships will take place on October 20th; the 50 mile championships will take place on October 22nd. Where: Where: The 50 and 100 mile trails are a point-to-point route within in the Massanutten Mountains of the George Washington National Forest, and Fort Valley area of Shenandoah and Page Counties, Virginia. The trail is the same as used in part by the Old Dominion 100 and 50 mile rides, the Fort Valley 30/55 mile rides, and part of the same trail system used for the 1986 World Championship Endurance Ride. The terrain ranges from wide public gravel roads to woodland paths to rocky single track mountain trails. The riders start and finish at Base Camp which is located at Fort Valley Stables in the southern end of Fort Valley. (Please see additional information on this website relating to directions and accommodations at Fort Valley Stables) All checks (except for finish) are away checks. Ride Management will provide for transportation for crew bags if the rider so desires. There is ample parking for crews at all checks. Some of these checks are being held on private land so riders and their crews and families are urged to respect these generous landowners in assuring the grounds are kept clean. Weather: October in Virginia average a daytime high of mid 60’s to low 70’s with low humidity. Night temperatures average in the mid 40’s with lows sometimes dropping in the 30’s. The trees will be at the height their fall foliage with spectacular colors of reds, orange, yellows, and gold. What: A full Schedule of Events will held at the Base Camp with lectures, clinics, talks, and miscellaneous endurance and horse related topics to delight and edify both young and old, experienced and hopefuls. Those not riding in the championship who would like to see the trails are invited to hike sections at their leisure, or may rent horses to go on guided trail rides from the stables. Vendors will be in plentiful attendance so riders can shop and browse to their hearts content. There is much to see and do in this richly historic valley, including visiting various National Park Battlefields (Civil War) and the Shenandoah National Park. It is a great destination for the whole family sure to be immensely enjoyed. Sponsorship: BUY A PIECE OF THE TRAIL!! Now everyone can take advantage of this unique opportunity to “own” a section of the 2006 Championship 50 or 100 mile trail.
